Silas's passing was just brought to my attention today. My sincere sympathies to all his family. We were classmates at Northwestern Med and the only 2 pipe smokers in the bunch. He was always great company during what were 4 very trying years on us all. He was helpful to those of us slower to get a handle on what was being taught and did so with ease. I am not sure he ever stopped smiling. As the Class representative. I will make sure that the rest of the Class is informed. On their behalf, belated though this is, I extend our respects to you all and want you to know that he was very, very respected by all of us. T. Zamirowski, MD Park Ridge IL

Saturday was the 244th 4th of July! On the 200th, in 1976, my younger brothers and I, inspired by my Father, Silas J Thomas, Sr.'s continued interest in easing our grief at the demise of our younger sister, Debby, a 3rd year Pre Law student at Drake U., Des Moines, IA, from TTP, in a clinical trial, financed and bought out the entire stock of 18" plastic American Flags from WGN Flag Co., on South Chicago Avenue, and allowed us to keep the substantial haul one can make from selling flags on the 4th! We managed to sell almost all of them with City permits on State St., to the assembly of spectators of the American Flag Parade, sponsored by the City of Chicago, Richard J Daley, Mayor. Quite a haul! Dr. Silas J Thomas, II, who died from A.L.S., on 5/25/2020 could not, and should not, have been so employed that day, as he had much more important work in his Residency at Michael Reese Hospital, less than 3 miles away, as an Ob/Gyn, saving little babies by successfully delivering preemies In 1992, in Los Angeles, one of his Compton, CA patients, Elvira, was hit by a stray bullet in the abdomen, and he would make medical history by saving both child and mother, as both are alive today! A Miracle!
