Obituary For Howard Croft

Howard Ray Croft, 78, of Washington, DC, transitioned into eternal life on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD of COVID-19.

He was born in Harrisburg, son of the late Minnie Croft and William Anderson, a 1960 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, a graduate of Duquesne Univwersity, a 60's voting rights activist in the turbulent South, crusader for social and racial, Urban Studies Professor at the University of the District of Columbia, pioneer of the Lorton Project to educate prisoners, advocate for prison reforms, union organizer and an adoring husband, devoted father and proud grandfather.

Howard leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Cynthia Kain; his children, Kofi Graham (Rayna) and Helima Croft (Gaun); his six grandchildren; his brothers, Bill Anderson (Cheryl) and Gary Miller; his sisters, Joan Humphrey (Bill), Terry Anderson Moore (Detra) and Patricia Anderson; his uncle, Charles Croft, Sr.; his cousins, Danita Carter (Stan) and Charles Croft, Sr. (Ann) and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. His life will be celebrated on Friday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Otterbein Cemetery in Newburg, PA with Graveside Services and Burial.

The Croft family has asked that donations in Howard Croft's memory be made to the African American Civil War Museum, 1925 Vermont Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001.
