Ms. Gladys Daniels

Mrs. Gladys Marie Daniels, daughter of the late Willie Timothy Carter and Ethel Rhodes Carter was born on November 8th 1950 in Chatom, Alabama.

She attended Washington County High School and graduated in 1970 where she was named Valedictorian. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with Stonewall Baptist Church.

Gladys married Arthella Daniels Jr. in 1971and to this union were born Cheree Ylonda and Shana Vongretchen. After moving to Mobile, Alabama, she joined with Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Gladys worked as a writer with the Mobile Beacon newspaper and later committed to the caretaking of her mother while being a home-maker and raising her two daughters.

This home was a prime spot for cousins, nieces and nephews on a daily; after-school and even a temporary home away from home for many over the years. Gladys was self-sacrificing with a heart for giving, both personally and through charities.

Her very favorite past-times included Bible study, reading, and watching her favorite teams and players across all sports including tennis and golf. A true word-smith, she also loved Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Gladys Daniels departed this life on July 1, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded indeath by her parents, Willie Carter and Ethel (Rhodes) Carter, one granddaughter Folashade Mkhya Daniels, two brothers: W.C. Carter and Odell Carter, three sisters Martha Hill, Myrtle (Preston) Turner and Mattie Carmichael. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband Arthella Daniels Jr., daughters Cheree Wiltsher, Shana Daniels, and daughter in love Regina (Donald) Davis; grand-daughters Maati McKinney, Adanne Daniels and granddaughters in love Maya and Sabrina Davis; three sisters – Willie Mae (Oscar - deceased) Johnson, Clara (Eddie – deceased) Barnes, Ethel Mae (Silas – deceased) Washington; four brothers – Lloyd Carter, James (Katherine) Carter, Roy Lee (Lois) Carter, Samuel Carter and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

The evening of Remembrance will be held from the Bell- Miller Memorial Chapel of Samuel Jackson Mortuary, 271 North Cody Road ,Mobile, Al 36608 Friday July 10, 2020 from 6:30 to 8pm and Saturday July 11, 2020 from Stonewall Baptist Church (565 Ellis Jordan Sawmill Road) Chatom, Alabama beginning at 10am until the 11am Homegoing Celebration. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
