Stella Mae Arrington

Stella Mae Ward Arrington of Richmond, Virginia quietly departed this life on Saturday July 11, 2020 at the age of 95. Stella was born on February 7th, 1925 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, she was the first of eight children born to the late Jeremiah and Hattie Moore Ward. She attended the public schools of Edgecombe County and on November 20th, 1943 she united in holy matrimony to Warren Harding Arrington who preceded her in death on April 26th, 2014. To this union of 70 years one son was born, Joseph Arrington (pre-deceased). In 1951, Stella Mae, Warren and Joseph moved to Richmond, VA and became members of the Mosby Memorial Baptist Church where she was an active and dedicated member for more than 60 years. She served faithfully as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Usher Board and head of the hospitality and kitchen committees. Stella was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. “Aunt Stella” and “Mommae”, as she was affectionately known to the family, loved to cook and she was famous among many for her pound cake, rum cake, coconut cake, fruit cake and cobblers. Her apple, peach, blueberry cobbler was always a hit at the annual Ward family reunion in North Carolina. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Arrington and son Joseph Arrington; brothers, Albert Lee Ward, Willie Ward Sr.(Marie), Jeremiah Ward Jr. (Pattie Lee), and Clarence Meldon Ward (Rose). She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Verna Mae Ward Taylor (Fred) and Cora Lee Ward Dancy (Ernest Lee), and a daughter-in-law, Hilda Lee Smith Arrington. To cherish her memory, she leaves one sister, Louise Ward Staunton (Irving) of Queens, NY; two granddaughters, Anita Arrington Corbin (Eric) of Richmond, VA and Alicia Kathleen Arrington of Richmond, VA.; sisters-in-law, Marie Ward of Baltimore, Maryland; and Rosa Ward Hankerson of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Catherine Arrington of New Jersey, Irma Arrington Hall of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where viewing will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Graveside side services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
