MRS. MATTIE SUE TISDALE EASON, the last living heir of the late Walter, Sr. and Sarah Baskerville Tisdale, was born January 17, 1935 in South Hill, VA and transitioned peacefully to her new heavenly home from her residence on July 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband- Marcus Eason, son- Melvin Tisdale, and siblings- Annie Mae, Edna Gray, Clarence, Walter, Jr. and Karen.

At an early age Mattie joined Free Union RZUA Church, Bracey, VA. She attended the Mecklenburg County Training School. Mattie was employed by the South Hill Glass House, where she met her husband, Marcus of 60 years, who swept her off her feet and became a housewife. They were joined in holy matrimony on March 2, 1957.

When her health started to decline she wanted to attend church closer to home, so she decided to join Temple Gate RZUA Church. She was an active member of the Missionary Society.

To know her was to love her. Mattie was considered a “Grandma” to many and it was nothing to drive by her house and see a yard full of children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sitting on her front porch with her husband, waving at every car that drove past. Mattie loved her gospels and her favorite song was, “May the Work I’ve Done, Speak for Me.” She will be missed by many, but the memories she created will forever live on.

Mattie leaves to cherish two children- Bernadine Miller of the home and Lemuel (Yvonne) Eason, Petersburg, VA; three grandchildren she reared from birth, Bernadette (Larry) Cook, Jr., Ronald (Renea) Tisdale, and Sharee Murphy; 17 grandchildren, 2 of the grandchildren of the home- Marquan and Jakayla Brown; 22 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Julia Tisdale, Philadelphia, PA; step-mother, Rosetta “Duck” Tisdale, LaCrosse, VA; 4 step-sisters, Mary Tisdale, Richmond, VA; Michelle Tisdale, South Hill, VA; Tywanna Farrar, Richmond, VA and Maccie (James) Farrar, Petersburg, VA; 4 sisters-in-law, Nellie (Seaborne) Cook, Summerset, NJ; Zelma Caswell, New Castle, DE; Bernice Caswell, NY, NY, and Linda Eason, Glennville, GA; 3 godchildren-Jennie (Bill) Ferguson and Edith King of South Hill, VA and Troy Simmons, Victoria, VA; devoted nephew- Willie Ben Tisdale; devoted family members- Roy “Crop” Jones, Frances Jones, Leslie Robinson, and Nannie “Sis” Powell, and a host of nieces, other nephews, cousins and friends.
