MRS. ROSA MARIE BOYD RUSSELL, affectionately called “Boo Boo,” was the daughter of the late Floyd and George Anna Hendrick Boyd. She was born February 5, 1956 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life suddenly July 11, 2020 at her residence, South Hill, VA. Rosa was also preceded in death by a brother- Floyd Boyd.
At an early age she was baptized and joined Roanoke Zion RZUA Church, Bracey, VA where she served on the Usher Board. She attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools.
“Boo Boo” will be remembered for her joyful spirit; her love for shopping at yard sales, and most of all, dancing at family functions to her favorite song, “Nature” by James Brown. She also adored pocketbooks; she would walk up to you and ask, “Can I have your pocketbook?”
She leaves to cherish her precious memories are: a daughter- Alesia Boyd, Lawrenceville, VA; two sons- Jerell Russell and Nijawan Yancey (Shakayla) of the home; six grandchildren- Donterius, Sherod, TahiJai, Tiffany, Mariah and McCain; six great-grandchildren; six sisters- Sylvia Boyd, Brodnax, VA; Cecilia “Diana” Rainey, Bracey, VA; Karen (Vernon) Smith, Brodnax, VA; Sharon Clary (Carl), South Hill, VA; Josephine Boyd, Columbia, SC, and Delphine (Harold) Fleming, Raleigh, NC; devoted friends- Melissa Walker Knight, Kenbridge, VA and Jocelyn “Coot” Jiggetts, South Hill, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
