At a young age, Isaac gave his life to Christ and sang with a gospel group. Growing up in Abbeville, SC he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and was an excellent marksman. He attended Mims High School in McCormick, SC and at the age of 16 he left his family farm for greener pastures in High Point, NC.
Isaac worked in the furniture industry and was employed by Harris Furniture until he was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in 1996. Isaac was affectionately known in High Point by many as Pap, Zek or Ike. He was an entrepreneur known for his love of playing numbers and his skills as a card sharp. Although he was a humble man, he always took pride in his appearance and vehicles. Isaac was the kind of man who wore his heart on his sleeve and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his children and spoiled them in more ways than one. In his later years, his belief in God strength as well as his tenacity helped him to overcome a stroke, an aortic aneurysm, diabetic coma and cancer for 24 years. Each time God blessed and enabled him to return home to live independently. He was a homebody who preferred to sit in his favorite chair enjoying his own company, short conversations, watching games shows, reality court t.v. and lifetime movies.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Etha Mae Walker, Jessie Lee Ware, Carrie Lou Lee, Robbie Wardlaw, Francis Townsend, and his twin Rebecca Leonard; brothers, John, James Odell, Robert, Joe, Haywood and David.
He leaves to cherish his everlasting memories to his sister, Josephine Bailey of High Point, NC; daughters, Barbara (Royland) Miles of Clayton, NC , Rhonda (Vernon) Mitchell of Winston Salem, NC, Teresa Gray of Covington, GA, Gwendolyn (Shannon) Green Covington, GA; son, Xavier (Nelrisa) Lawson of Burlington, NC; one grandson, Elijah; six granddaughters ,Brianna, Lamaya, Ania, Xaja, Ahlani, and Arionna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We are at peace knowing he did not suffer and now his final resting place is in heaven with family. We thank God for allowing us to be by his side to love and support him all his life and through his transition to heaven.
On behalf of the Wardlaw family we would like to thank everyone for your love and support as we celebrate the life of our Father, Brother, Uncle and Cousin.
