Obituary For Carrie Hickman

Mrs. Carrie Mae Williamson Hickman, 71, of 111 Victor Drive Shelby, NC passed away on Monday July 20, 2020 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. She was born in Darlington County, SC on March 15, 1949 to the late Sam Williamson and Dorothy Moses Williamson.

Carrie was educated through the Darlington County Public School System and later received her GED through the Cleveland County Public School System.

Carrie was united in matrimony to James “Albert” Hickman, Sr. on September 8, 1964, in Darlington, SC. This union was blessed with three children. In 1965 she and her husband moved to Shelby, NC to start their new life together.

Many of Carrie’s years of employment were spent with Clevemont Mills in Kings Mountain, Fasco in Shelby, and Boiling Springs Snack Time. She retired from the workforce in 2009.

Carrie was a dedicated and active member of Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church for over fifty years. She faithfully served as a Deaconess, member of the church choir, usher board, Prayer Warrior and Praise Team member. In recent years she enjoyed working with the church’s community outreach program through the Mission House. It gave her a renewed since of purpose.

Carrie was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She treasured family gatherings and would often bake pies and cakes to share with everyone. Her hearty laughter could often be heard when she would talk to family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her three children: James Albert Hickman, Jr and Carolyn Hickman both of Shelby NC and Carrie H. (Willie) Frierson of Garner NC; Five grandchildren: Jordan A. Hickman (Caretaker) and Corey J. Hickman, both of Shelby, NC, India D. Hickman of Charlotte, NC, Kelby B. Frierson and Kendall J. Frierson both of Garner, NC; three sisters: Dorothy (James) Nettles, Mattie DePugh and Louise (Elisha) Garland, all of Darlington, SC; brothers: Sam (Lottie)Williamson, Jr. and Levern Williamson, all of Darlington SC; half-brother: Eugene McCoy of Darlington, SC; special sister-in-law: Ann (Edward) Hickman of Shelby, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Dorothy Moses Williamson, her husband, James Albert Hickman, Sr. and her sisters Mary Lee Hickman, Gloria Jean Jones, Roberta McKay and Jessie Mae Williamson.

The service for Mrs. Hickman will be private. Burial will take place at Cleveland Memorial Park.
