Alvin David Posey was born on July 24, 1941 to Granville and Mable Willis Posey in Lincoln, Alabama. Alan was married to Gayle Goodwin Posey of Louisville, KY. Raised in Lincoln, Alabama, Alvin was baptized at an early age at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Shortly after moving to Louisville, KY, he joined Forest Baptist Church.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Granville Posey and his mother, Mable Willis Posey. He is survived by his wife Gayle, his children: Lisa Goodwin Vaillancourt (Leonard), Gerald Posey (Regina), Adrienne Posey-Bracken (Robert) and Jason Posey. His grandchildren: Brittani Alfaro (Adam), Christian Maddox, Zachary Maddox, Myles Maddox, Joshua Posey, Aaron Posey, Scot Vaillancourt, Chandler Posey, Marcus Posey, Kennedi Posey and Kendall Posey. Great grandchildren: Grayceson and Noah Alfaro, Lucca Maddox and Mylani Maddox. His surviving siblings are Joyce Montgomery (Tommy Lee), Elizabeth Montgomery, Granville Posey (Beverly), Fletcher Posey, Danny Posey (Patty), Flossie Posey Pearson and Carlton Posey and a host of many beloved family members and friends.
