Obituary For Anna Dean Mitchell Hopson

Anna Dean Mitchell Hopson was born on Wednesday, December 15, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James Frank Mitchell and Helen Daniel Mitchell. Her nickname was “Deanie” and practically everyone, friends and family alike, rarely used her first name. Deanie began her Christian journey at a very young age and gave her life to Christ at Star Hope Baptist Church. She was a committed, faithful member to the church as a whole and to the choir where she enjoyed singing praises unto the Lord.

Deanie loved her family and especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren since she held an extra special place in her heart for them. Deanie had a unique sense of humor and gave wonderful nuggets of wisdom to those who would listen. After retiring from the Jefferson County Public School System, she filled her life with being there for her family and others too.

She had her own style and enjoyed adding additional clothes to her wardrobe whether it was to her hooped earring collection or her tailored look for which she was so known to wear. Not only did Deanie have the perfect outfit for any occasion, but she also had several closets in which to keep them until it was time to get dressed for the next event.

Deanie was preceded in death by her parents; husband and father of their children, Leroy Holmer Hopson; siblings Emma Jean Mitchell, Sylvester Mitchell, James Frank Mitchell, Jr., Spencer Mitchell, Alonzo Mitchell, Jeanette Yates and Laura Etta Harris; and children, Carolyn Alexander and Sharon Hopson. Anna Dean Mitchell Hopson departed this life on July 20, 2020. She has left to grieve and remember her: children, Darryl Hopson (Wanda), Teresa Gray, Terry Hopson, Glenda Witherspoon (Anthony), Dennis Hopson, Deandre Hopson (Denitra); brothers, Eugene Mitchell and Jasper Mitchell; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends.

“We love you Mama and Granny for always showering us with your LOVE. We’ll miss you…until we see you again in the rapture (John 5: 28-29).”
