Obituary For Estelle Willingham Allen

Home going celebration for Mrs. Estelle Willingham Allen, 85, will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Bibleway Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Bishop Mitchell will be the eulogist. Interment will immediately follow in Morning Star Church Cemetery. Mrs. Allen will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Estelle Willingham Allen began her earthly journey on Thursday, August 2, 1934, in Sycamore, Alabama to the union of Steve George Willingham, Sr. and Mary Lee Benson Willingham.

Mrs. Allen had a relationship with the Lord and worshipped at Bibleway Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Ragland, Alabama where she made her home. She served the Lord by singing in the senior choir, as a member of the usher board and in leadership as the president of the Pastor’s Aide. She received her education in the schools of Talladega County. On Tuesday, December 5, 1950, Estelle was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Lee Allen and worked tirelessly to love, care and nurture her husband and their children. In her spare time, She enjoyed playing dominoes and checkers, shopping, cooking and watching soap operas and westerns.

On the evening of Monday, July 27, 2020, Mrs. Allen began her eternal journey at the residence of her daughter. She was united in eternity with her husband, Joseph L. Allen; two sons, Myron Allen and Jimmy Allen; her parents, Steve and Mary Willingham; six siblings, Lela Bell Looney, Corine Davidson, Carrie Thomas, Hattie Sue Johnson, George Steve Willingham, Jr. and Charles Willingham; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Allen; and a son-in-law, Joseph Long.

Mother Allen leaves to cherish her loving memories: three daughters, Joann (Raymond) Allen of Pell City, Alabama, Judith R. Long and Valerie Allen Rogers of Talladega, Alabama; two sons, James (Celeste) Allen of McDonough, Georgia and Johnny (Vanessa) Allen of Ragland, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Lucille Willingham and Sarah Nell Garrett of Gadsden, Alabama; three special friends, Verma Dell Chatman, Alphonso Jordan and Mother Gloria Jean Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I've only known Ms. Estelle for a few years. She was such a kind spirited and loving lady. It was almost your birthday Ms. Estelle and time for me to bake you a cream cheese pound cake with lemon glaze. I was always happy to bake it for you because you loved it so much.
