Obituary For Dorothy Oates

Dorothy Mae Oates age 86 formerly of Cherryville, North Carolina transitioned on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina She was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina on July 9, 1934 to the late Anthony Thompson and Rachel Helen Hope Thompson Nance .

She graduated from John Chavis High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1952. After graduation she attended Clark College in Atlanta, GA. She was a lifetime member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church. She retired from Burlington Industries.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. in White’s Family Chapel at Ebony & White’s Funeral Service with burial to follow at Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. The body may be viewed at Ebony & White’s on Friday from 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm. Due to COVID-19 everyone is asked to wear masks.

I will always cherish the times that Skip & I stayed at Cousins Dot's house when we came to Cherryville. She welcomed us with open arms when there was no other family left to stay with. She was Kind, Compassionate and Sweet. To Gail & Family - Be strong and know that God heals broken hearts and wipes away tears........RIP Cousin
