Obituary For Maurice James Porter

Mr. Maurice Ponder, a resident of Lithonia, GA passed away July 25, 2020 in Conyers, GA. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Watkins Funeral Home Jonesboro Chapel, 143 North Ave.,Jonesboro, GA 30296 from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Maurice was born July 3, 1985 to James Porter and Renee Marie Porter in Islip, New York. Anyone who knew Maurice's knew he was a happy cheerful and mischievous. A man of many talents. He was a happy baby started walking at 10 months but when he started walking he was afraid of grass. Maurice always got everything that he ever wanted till this day.

His most cherished pastime is when he got to say home all day with his mom and watch their favorite movies. At a young age he had a great ear from music. Something he also got from his mother. Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS One, Prince and Nirvana is just to name a few of his musical influences.

He attended Park Avenue Elementary, Amityville High and Copiague High where he played for the football team and excelled. He was an asset and the highlight of the team. A real star player! His real love was boxing, he loved to Box, he was very good. His coach, Mr. Carter said he was the best boxer he seen in 27 years. His favorite boxer was Mike Tyson but he studied other boxers such as Muhammad Ali. He was a very talented drawer, at a young age he started drawing Cartoons from the TV.

His first child, Amya Star Porter was born on February 9th, 2011 was one of the happiest days of his life and officially made him a father. Maurice was a multi tasking dad, he would play NBA2K all why holding his newborn babygirl for hours. Clearly, Maurice loved being a father because by February 5th, 2012 he had his second child, A'Lani Porter who he loved she envoked his whole personality. If you met Maurice you met A'lani. Maurice got married March 20th, 2014 to Kennisha Porter. By May 29th, 2018 his first and only son, Amaru Knight Porter was born and completed his family. Maurice was a loving father and did all he could do for his children. Today we celebrated Maurice and the way he touched everyone here emotionally.

Maurice is survived by his wife, Kennisha Porter; his beautiful children, Amya, A’lani, and Amaru; parents, James and Renee Marie Porter; sibling, James Carr, Jasmine Carr, and Jaquan Carr; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home, 725 Beech Street, Louisville, GA is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Maurice J. Porter.
