Obituary For Ophelia Lacey

On January 23, 1929 Ophelia Margariette Dillard Lacey was born to the late Robert and Ida Miller Dillard. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Floyd, Raymond, Thomas, and Alonzo Dillard. Her sisters Catherine Dillard Carter, Thelma Dillard Tappin, and Eunice Dillard Brent. She was united in marriage to the late Phillip A. Lacey Sr. and to this union one son Phillip A. Lacey Jr. was born. She united with Beulah Baptist Church at an early age and served often with hosting fundraisers, especially known for her Tea and Fashion shows held at her home. She remained faithful until her health begin to fail. Sunday July 26, 2020 Ophelia answered her Masters call and fell asleep in His arms at her home. “Squirrel” as her family and friends affectionately called her was a product of Memphis City Schools, graduating from Melrose High School. She was employed after graduation in the medical field , working with the elderly and in care homes. During her career she was always the first choice when services were needed, “ Known as the worker who gets the job done!” She was the exact same with her family, if anyone in her family was ever ill, she was always willing to aid their caregiving. She cared for each of her siblings with honor. Known for her honesty and integrity an article was written in the Commercial Appeal honoring her for one occasion she found a wallet with a large sum of cash in it and immediately had someone to take her the police station and turn it in. Although the latter years of her life were impacted by dementia, she remained steadfast. To cherish her memory and carry on her legacy she leaves her devoted son Phillip A. Lacey Jr., grandsons Keith Lacey, Tarqus Hunt, and A. Marquis Lacey. Great granddaughters Mya and Faith Lacey, and Marissa Martin. A special nephew Kevin Gerrarad Dillard Brent who went to daily to visit her, along with a host of other family and friends to join celebrating a life well lived.

A viewing is scheduled for Thursday July 30, 2020 from 4 PM until 6 PM and service of celebration Friday July 31, 2020 at 2 PM at R. S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home 2944 Walnut Grove. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Southwoods.
