Obituary for Nettie Mae Swain

Funeral services for Ms. Nettie Mae Swain, 58, will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at Belview Baptist Church. Pastor Timothy Caldwell will deliver the eulogy. Attendance for the funeral service will require a ticket to enter. Interment will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park and is open to the public. Ms. Swain will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be limited to the family only. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020.

Ms. Nettie Mae Swain began this journey called life on Friday, January 5, 1962, in Talladega, Alabama to the union of William Howard Swain and Minnie J. McGhee Swain.   Ms. Swain was a long time member of Belview Missionary Baptist Church. She attended school in the Talladega City Schools and concluded her education at Talladega High School. Throughout her professional career, Nettie was employed with Spring Valley, Tyson Foods, Palm Beach and Valet Cleaners. Being one of thirteen children, family was very important. Nettie’s greatest joy was being a mother to her four children and extending that love to her grandchildren.   On the evening of Wednesday, July 29, 2020, Nettie completed this journey called life at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. She was preceded in passing by her daughter, Lakisha Fasha Swain; her parents, William Howard Swain and Minnie J. McGhee Swain; three sisters, Reabell Warwick, Juanita “Becky” Swain and Brenda Faye Elston; two brothers, Lawrence Swain and Willie Howard “Chop Chop” Swain; a niece, Shavon Green; and a nephew, Memphis “Lil Memp” Swain.   Beautiful and cherished memories will live in the hearts of her three children, Tonora (Shernessa Vonté) Swain, Shandrica (Sean) Bolden and LaShanda (Terrance) Borden of Talladega, Alabama; three grandsons, De’Javion Truss, TraShaundez Bolden and LaTerrance Borden; five granddaughters, Tonorika Swain, KiShada Swain, TaShayon Borden, Sakhia Bolden and Tanauria Swain; five sisters, Lillie Ruth Whitson, Mozell (Johnnie) Whitson and Diane (Tony) McElderry of Talladega, Alabama, Patricia (Warren) Frazier of Cropwell, Alabama and Rita Swain of Talladega, Alabama; two brothers, Anthony Swain of Talladega, Alabama and Rodney (Shernnita) Swain of Birmingham, Alabama; a good friend, Joy Reynolds of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family. Nettie Mae My sister for life. We didn't hang out much as we gotten older. But girlfriend when we meet up. Don't no one need to say come on lest go. Bc when we get together we will have each other dying laughing about the old days. We taugh each other how to slow dance with each other and with a broom off the song The Lonely One at your sister's Moe Zeal house. She lived straight to the back of the Westgate. Trisha ,You don't remember the song it's by Terry Hutt. So look it up. I know Elaine will be lonesome with out her better half. Elaine our sister no longer suffering. She's with her mother, daughter and family. Kesha telling Nettie Mae, you supposed to stay back and take care of my baby. Nettie Mae was ready to go home. She have done her job here. Lord knows I'm gonna miss my sister so much. She have raised her children And grandchildren up to know right from wrong. My sister have no more pain, no more worrying, no more tears. As of now she's saying its so beautiful and peaceful. That was what she needed. I love you so much Nettie Mae and you will always be in my heart and miss. I hear you laughing saying Bell you is so crazy. Bc we have each other laughing. Laughing is the best medicine for health, love, joy, and peace. What else is there to ask for we got it Nettie Mae.
