Obituary For Mrs. Mae Ella McPhaul Wall

Mae Ella McPhaul Wall, affectionately known as “Ma” to her family and friends, departed this earthly life on Friday, July 24, 2020, after a long, heartbreaking period of physical and mental decline inflicted on her by dementia.

Her private graveside service will be held 1:00PM on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 N. O’Henry Blvd., Greensboro, NC. She will be available for public viewing Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM at Woodard Funeral Home.

She was the eldest daughter of the late Jerry McPhaul and Fannie Ann Farmer-McPhaul. She was born on May 23, 1933 in Scotland County, NC. Mae married Nathaniel in 1956 and a few years later moved her family to Greensboro, NC. She was self-taught in sewing, cooking, doing hair and was willing to share her expertise and teach anyone that was interested. She completed a long-time goal when she attended GTCC to complete her GED at the age of 46.

Mae was a humble, loving and generous person. She was the backbone and support, not only for her family but to anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, Mae is preceded in death by two daughters, Debra and Jan’far (Layra); brother, Charles and three sisters, Lucy, Jessie and most recently Elizabeth.

Mae leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Nathaniel; one daughter, Fannie Brasley (Rodney); three sons, Rickey Wall (Diane), Scott Wall and Jerry Wall; two sisters, Loys McInnis and Naomi McPhaul; aunt, Bell Farmer; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; caregivers, Stephanie Henderson and Helen Wall who took care of her like she was their family; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Woodard Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
