Obituary For Josephine Tyson

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

A Private Graveside Service for Mrs. Josephine Roceader "Josey" Smith Tyson will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, August 8, 2020 at North View Cemetery, Florence, SC. Interment will follow, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mrs. Josephine Roceader “Josey” Smith Tyson, daughter of the late Joseph and Roceader Smith was born June 9, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina. After an illness, “Josey” as she was affectionately called, gained her Heavenly wings on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Josey attended Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina and gained further education at Florence-Darlington Technical College.

Josey was a faithful member of Southern Calvary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. John McKenney, who serves as Pastor and Associate Pastor, Reverend Peggy McKenney. “Mommy” was a dedicated member of the Senior Choir. She loved singing and traveling to different churches, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through songs. As a committed servant of God, Josey, sowed seeds of love for her Lord and Savior, and the church as she served in several capacities of the church. She exemplified John 4, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day, the night is coming when no one can work.”

Mommy was preceded in church by her husband of 32 years, Lee Jerry Tyson; her parents, Joseph and Roceader Smith; a grandson, Jamal; a granddaughter, Courtney; a great grandson, Lennox; a daughter-in-law, Norma Cobb; and seven siblings, Leroy “Bo’, Nathaniel “Nate”, Roosevelt “Sonny”, Roland “W”, Geneva “Sis”, Gloria “Gee” and Saul “Buddy”.

Josey is survived by seven children: Michael (Caprice) Cobb, Deborah (Richard) Cain, Alexandria “Denise” Cobb, Wendy Mozingo, Jacqueline (Matthew) Scott, Kevin (Tiffany) Cobb, and Reverend Kimberly Crawford; two step-children, Chante’ Tyson and Nick Tyson; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys (Edmond) James; two brothers, Jerry Smith and Jesse (Nina)Smith; a bonus child, Rodney (Vanessa) Taylor; a special niece, Sheila Nesmith; nephews; nieces; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives; extended church family; and friends.
