To the Rankin family and friends. My last apology to Mrs. Bertha Anna Rankin is for the misspelling of her beautiful name. I have unsuccessfully tried to correct my post. I know that she would laugh with me and say, girl you don't know how to spell my name after all these years and you should have checked your spell check cause you know these computers don't know what they are doing. They will change your name to someone you do not even know. I hear her laughter throughout eternity. Then she would say, you know I am just kidding, I love you, but get it right the next time. So please forgive the spelling of her name for every word I speak about her is from my heartfelt memory. That post should follow.Ranae Shipp.

To the Rankin family: Christine, Tammy, Darrick, Durand, grandchildren and all who loved this strong and courageous woman. There is not enough room or time to share what Mrs. Birtha Rankin meant to me. She was a surrogate mother to so many and I have know her all of my life and all of you as well. What a blessed community we were privy to experience. As a child she was a strict disciplinarian in the neighborhood who maintained order, but with love, compassion, and commitment. She took care of her husband and her family and still had time for children. She was our playmate, dance partner and culinary instructor. It wasn't until I became an adult that I truly understood her to be a friend and a surrogate mother. Her discipline and love is what kept the community together. God sent all of us a warrior and a guardian angel in the form of Bitha A. Rankin. She has received her reward and what a beautiful legacy has she left for her family. "A Fearless Warrior, full of love and Faith." Thank you family for sharing her with us, may God bless you all and keep you, love to you all. Ranae Shipp.
