Deacon Arthur Ralph Hillman is the fourth child of ten siblings. He was born in Hancock County, Georgia to the late Mr. Oscar and Julia Hillman. His parents moved to Warrenton, Georgia where he grew up and was educated in the Warren County school System. During those school years he met the most beautiful woman of his life, the incomparable Evelyn Kinsey, whom he affectionately calls “Lene”. Deacon Hillman moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1956 where he gained employment. After establishing himself in Atlanta, he then went back to Warrenton to marry Evelyn Kinsey, the wife of his dreams. They relocated to Atlanta as husband and wife where they were married for sixty years. They were blessed with four children, Deborah Ann, Willie Ralph, Kerr Aneta, and Perry Lee Hillman. Deacon Hillman worked multiple jobs to provide for his family needs. He retired from Sherwin Williams in 1994 as a painter-engineer. He was a family man, who enjoyed and loved his family. As a father and grandfather, he and his wife would have family gatherings on special holidays with his children and grandchildren. The fellowship between family members was joyous as love permeated those special times. Oh, and who can forget the “Grace” that he gave which was sometimes a bit long while some family members’ stomachs were growling. Deacon Hillman, most of all, had a strong faith in God. His conversations were always Christ centered as he shared the love of Jesus with his family members and others in whom he came in contact. He was ordained September 22, 1974, as a Deacon of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church by the late Reverend Homer M. Smith. As a Deacon, he ministered and served Christian communion to the sick and shut-in after regular church hours. He served as a Sunday school teacher for twenty-five years. Additionally, he served as a Church Trustee, Mount Sinai Male chorus member, choir member, church soloist, and served on the Church Finance committee. Deacon Hillman, along with his wife, devoted their lives to Christian service. His family and friends will always remember him as a man who devoted his life in the service of the Lord and as a generous and kind spirited man. Deacon Hillman was preceded in death by his brothers Walter, Johnny, and Edgar Hillman. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Hillman; four children, Deborah Ann (Tyrone) Adams, Willie Ralph (Cheryl) Hillman, Perry Lee Hillman and Kerr Aneta Hillman; four grandchildren; Karlisa Shenise Adams, Willie Ralphael Hillman, Bianca Denise Hillman, and Martez Demario Hillman; sisters, Mary Vaughn, Ann Wyatt, Hattie Heard, Ruby (Felton) Poole, and Rose Williams; youngest brother, John Larry (Mamie) Hillman, and a host of other family members and friends.
