She formally joined New Bethel CME Church in 1963 under the pastorship of Rev. Raymond L. Graves. She served faithfully for over 50 years first as a member of New Bethel’s Stewardess Board then later joined the Missionary Society and Senior Choir. She held these posts until retiring in 2018. She faithfully manned the food pantry until she could no longer use the stairs. In 2003, Rev. Graves presented Amelia with the “Mother of The Year Award.”
Amelia loved poetry and memorized a number of poems in high school. Some of her favorite recitals were The Creation by James Weldon Johnson, The Raven by Edgar Alan Poe, IF by Rudyard Kipling, I’m Not Looking for Much of a Crowd, The House by the Side of the Road, and her most-requested, Heaven’s Grocery Store. She was preceded in death by one son, Nathan Glenn of Rochester, NY; former husband, Nelson Glenn of Bainbridge, GA; seven brothers: Harvey, Charles, Alfred, Royal, Harold, and Theodore McLean, Norman Weathers; and two sisters: Candis E. and Annie R. of East Orange, NJ. She leaves to cherish her memory: 110-year-old stepmom, Irene McLean, of Carthage, NC; three sisters, Esther McAuley, Mildred McIver, and Lois Cotten of Broadway, NC; two brothers, Wallace O. McLean of Columbus, OH and Walter Silas Weathers of Durham, NC; two sons, Groven and Lonnie Glenn of Rochester, NY; three daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Roberts , Cheryl (Ronnie) Washington of Rochester, NY, and Esther Glenn of Durham, NC; twelve grandchildren: Elevelena (Jajuan) Jefferson, K. Charita Glenn, Syreeta Gammariello, Dorian McCloud, Jeremy, Joshua, and Brittany (Camellia) Roberts of Rochester, NY; Nathan (Amina) Sam of Southfield, MI; Tajuan and Twaniesha Glenn of Oxford, NC; Michael (Eboni) Glenn of Las Vegas, NV; and Alena Glenn of Burlington, NC; 30 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces & nephews, relatives, and friends.
