Obituary For William Pettigrew Sr.

William Pettigrew, Sr. "Lefty", 96, of Lincoln St., Steelton, transitioned into eternal life on Sunday, August 9, 2020 in the peace and love of his home.

He was born in Moncks Corner, SC, son of the late Edward and Ida (Wonnett) Pettigrew, a 1943 graduate of the Old Steelton High School, received a Certificate of Completion in 1953 from the American School of Business, a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II, retired from the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. with over 40 years of service, former board member of the Steelton-Highspire School Board, a member of the Housing and Redeveloment Authority of Dauphin County for over 44 years, past president of the Steelton Rotary Club, a member of Monumental A. M. E. Church where he was Trustee Emeritus and served in many ministries of the church through out the years. William was the widower of Helen Dillard Pettigrew and in addition to her and his parents; he was preceded in death by his son, Vance Pettigrew and two of his daughters, Kelly Pettigrew and Patricia (Pettigrew) Hawley and leaves to celebrate his life; his son, William Pettigrew, Jr.; his daughter, Jeannine Pettigrew; his sister, Ida Mae Brown; his six grandchildren; his three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 1201 N. 17th St., Harrisburg with viewing from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.

Covid 19 guidelines will be observed with masks and six Foot Social Distancing for all attendees. Arrangements entrusted to the Ministry of Comfort of Major H. Mr. Lefty was beloved by the Robinson family for many years. He was father figure, friend, fishing partner, mentor, co-worker, supporter, and example of Godly living. We join, as family, in mourning his leaving, but rejoice in the knowledge that he loved the Lord and is resting in peace. His story...to be continued.
