Andre Jerrel Armstrong, the son of Nekesha and Stacy Dunbar also Julius Armstrong was born on April 20, 1993, in Jackson, MS. Andre attended Lester and Boyd Elementary, Whitten Middle and was a proud 2011 graduate of Forest Hill High School. While in high school, he received a basketball scholarship to Mississippi Delta Community College. Andre was baptized at an early age at Greater Pearlie Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active member of The Honor Guard and The United Mentoring Organization. One of the most important accomplishments of his life was marrying his soulmate Kenya R. Thomas. To his union, three lovely daughters were born: Alivia, Aliyah and Alissa. Andre joined the United States Marine Corps in September 2013. After graduating bootcamp, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune Military Base in North Carolina. Andre was deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2018 to Georgian, Europe. His awards included the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. Andre was stationed in Warner Robins, GA and quickly moved up in rank becoming a Sergeant in 2017.He inspired many and made a great impact on everyone he encountered. Andre was a proud Marine and was honored to serve his country. On July 31, 2020, Andre was called home. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Aliyah Jani Armstrong. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Kenya Armstrong; two daughters, Alivia Jai and Alissa Joi Armstrong; his mother, Nekesha (Stacy) Dunbar; his father, Julius Armstrong; three sisters, Alexus and Daija Dunbar, Jasmaine Coleman; two brothers, Craig (Alexandria) Thomas and Jashun Coleman all of Jackson, MS; grandparents, Deloris Brinson of Desoto, TX; Charles Brinson of Jackson, MS; one uncle, Earnest (MarQuita) King; five aunts, Michelle (Cory) Whitlock, Nekita (Stevie) Adams, Totsha Brinson, Audra (Kevin) Johnson and Chasity Brinson, all of Jackson, MS; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends. “Special” aunt, April (Lee) Clincy and a “special” grandmother, Elizabeth Dunbar.
