Mary Alice Shadwick

Sunday, September 17, 1933, God gifted the world with Mary Alice, the third child of Ed Andrew and Magnolia Teague Williams. She was born, Sallis, Mississippi. Two brothers Robert and Johnathan, four sisters Eva, Margaret, Magnolia and Viola preceded her in death.

Mary Alice joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at a young age and committed her life to Jesus, where she as an Officer of the church. Where she became Deaconess, served as Benevolent Treasurer, a Trustee and became a Mother of the Church where served during her entire life. Mother Shadwick attended school in Durant, MS and graduated from Durant High School.

Mother Shadwick married Julius (J.W.) Brown in 1953 and remain married until J.W.'s death in 1980. God blessed their union with eight children; one son (Donald) preceded her in death. She later married Fredrick Douglas Shadwick, who also preceded her in death.

Mother Shadwick worked hard all her life, she worked cotton fields, canned fruit, jellies and vegetables, to provide nourishment for her family. She baked, for her family and neighbors. She had a reputation of feeding anyone that came by her house and helping anyone she could. One of her favorite dishes was turkey & dressing. She received numerous requests for her dressing during the holidays and on special occasions; and made sure to deliver a large pan of dressing for Repasts to her friends and family in the community.

Mother Shadwick, was a seamstress, she designed and made clothing for her girls and the daughters of the community and altered clothing for the Sallis, community up to May 2020. She and her mother made uniforms for Long Creek High School, cheerleaders and band majorettes. She also, made uniforms for McAdams High School Drum Major and Majorettes in 1975-1976.

Mother Shadwick worked as a cook (cafeteria lady) at Long Creek School in the 1960's. She later worked for Garan's Mfg. in Kosciusko, MS for 18 years. After retiring from Garan she also worked as Nanny for the Atwood family, and took in ironing for the McKinney and Roberts family. Mother Shadwick stopped working except for occasional alterations in 2018.

Everyone who knew her will have a fond memory and a smile when they think of her.

Mother Shadwick leaves the following loved ones behind to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: Brother John Clarence (Milwaukee, WI) and Sister Daisy Guyton (Hillside, IL). Very special Nephew Johnathan Williams and Niece Audrey Menia Lee.
