Mary was a member of Eternal Life Ministry Church and was active in the Eastern Star. She loved working with youth and serving her community. Mary was active in the Civil Rights Movement, marched with Rev. Cox and participated in the sit-ins at Woolworth’s in High Point, NC. Upon her return to High Point, Mary was a volunteer for various organizations, Guardian Ad Litem and worked in the Guilford County School System with special needs children.
Mary was known for being a “diva” because of her sense of style and fashion. She was a “Hostess with the Mostest” because of her ability to host any event from formal to casual. Mary loved to entertain her family and friends. She looked forward to attending the annual Shriners’ Ball with her husband Charles. Mary was outgoing and enjoyed meeting people. Family was everything to Mary, and she cherished the time spent with her children…and especially her grandchildren. She was truly a doting grandmother. Those who mourn her rejoice that she is now enfolded in the loving care of God, her Maker and Redeemer.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Kymberly Monk and Gary Monk; grandsons, Antonio Berry, Jr., Jaylen Monk and Christopher Reed; granddaughter, Courtney Reed Hammock; brothers, March (Carolyn) Singleton and Willie Singleton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
