Obituary For Joey Simpson Maddox

Joey Simpson Maddox was born October 3, 1956. His proud parents were Earl and Lucille Duncan Maddox. He was the youngest of their seven children. Joey accepted Jesus Christ into his life at an early age and became a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church. He was a student at the Jefferson County Public School System where his final years of required education concluded at Seneca High School.

He enjoyed doing many things and among his favorites were fishing, rabbit hunting, and collecting model cars. His natural born talent was drawing. When it came to sports, you could count on Joey to be cheering for “his” Tennessee Titans or “his” U of L Cards.

During Joey’s 64 years of life, he was married to Evon Mudd for 30 years before their divorce. They were blessed with two children, Kimura and Jametres. Not only was he a student for the Jefferson County Public School System, but he also worked for them as a custodian at both Goldsmith Elementary and Westport Middle Schools.

Joey is gone too soon, but he was able to make an impact on many. Some people would say he was a father figure to them. Sadly, on August 15, 2020, Joey was called to rest. His parents and sister, Clara Biven, preceded him in death.

Joey leaves to cherish his memories: two children, Kimura Maddox and Jametres Maddox; three granddaughters, D’aja (Justin), Kai’ranea, and Na’tori; four sisters, Alice Davis, Marsh Gilbert, Willie Moran, Patricia Conaway; one brother, Earl Thomas Maddox (Deb); two aunts, Viola and Nelle; best friend, Wayne Clarkson; ex-wife, Evon Ward; beloved dog, “Felony”; goddaughter, Tamika Mays, godson, Idarion King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
