She was a lifelong resident of Chesnee, SC, and most recently of Spartanburg, SC, for the past four years. At a young age, Connie accepted Christ as her Savior at Brooklyn C.M.E Church, Chesnee, SC, where she was a faithful member who loved the Lord.
Connie enjoyed spending time,laughing and talking with her sisters, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to listen to spiritual sermons and read her bible. Mrs. Hurst enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, whether it was a western, the news, soap opera, or crime tv. She loved to eat and enjoyed cooking her food from scratch. Connie was a loving, humble, devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Mrs. Hurst was known for her beautiful smile and her selfless love of putting others before herself.
Connie was predeceased by: her parents, Ulysses and Lubertha Martin-Brewton; her husband, Charles E. Surratt; her granddaughter, April S. Briggs; two sisters, Eula Mae Hawkins and Janice (William) Jackson; and a brother, James Mills.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her three daughters, Jo Ann Briggs, Bennie Brewton-Boyd and Brenda (Robert) Miller; her three sisters, Christine Hardy, Edith (Joshua) Jackson and Shirley (Ervin) Dewberry; five grandchildren, Robert (Kenya) Briggs, Jr., Christopher (Shawanda) Miller, Katrina Briggs-Canada, Tiffany Miller and Amber Briggs; six great-grandchildren, Moses, Caleb, and Micah Briggs, Ashayla Briggs-Chambers, Christopher and Gabriella Canada; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Connie Ruth Brewton Hurst will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Brooklyn C. M. E. Church Cemetery, 130 Brooklyn Church Rd., Chesnee, SC.
