Obituary For Mrs. Susie Evelyn Solomon

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted…” ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Susie Evelyn “Red” Arrington Solomon was born on March 2, 1923, in Nash County, North Carolina to the late Rogers and Ruth Arrington. Susie transitioned on August 28, 2020, in Cummings, Georgia. Susie spent her early years on the farm in Nash County, North Carolina. She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she ran a daycare center out of her home and helped raise children from the neighborhood. She was a grandmother to many and provided a haven for those who knew to look for the yellow house. Susie moved to Orlando Florida where she worked for Disney. She then returned to North Carolina and gave her grandchildren wonderful memories of riding the pony, her homemade biscuits, and learning to drive in her car, “Big Blue.” Susie moved to Stockbridge, Georgia in 2001, where she brought life to the home of Mary and Vincente Scott. There she joined Central United Methodist Church and attended faithfully as long as her health allowed. Susie also attended the Henry County Seniors Center where she made friends with other seniors and was caught a time or two on Santa’s lap during the holidays. She made a point of traveling from Georgia to North Carolina for Arrington Family reunions, where she was recognized as one of the oldest family members until her passing at the age of 97. We celebrate her long and full life. She was preceded in death by her late first husband, Dave Scott, her late second husband Alfred Solomon, six siblings, Thomas Arrington, Ollie Arrington, Essie Arrington, Jasper “Bill” Arrington, Marie Arrington Jones, and Gertie Arrington, and her grandsons De’Onte Scott and Terrence Scott. Susie is survived by three children, Vincente Scott (Mary), Richie Scott, Beverly Merritt; one brother and sister-in-law, Otis “Toot” and Lillie Mae Arrington; niece, Gail Arrington; grandchildren, Wendy Penson (Derwin), Tara Scott (James), Kamau Hayes, Tishina Hodges, Carly Scott, and Cherie Scott; great-grandchildren Ahmir Scott, Kamau Scott, Khalil Scott, Danny Hedgepeth, Jr; Kalise, Malachi and Morgan Hayes; Doushine, Ashinti and Sa’fir Hodges; Ebony, Nevaeh and Skylar Penson, and great-great-grandchildren Kamden and Kashton Scott and a host of nieces and nephews.
