Ms. Michelle Garlington

Michelle “Chelle” Lynette Garlington departed this life here to go home with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Michelle was born July 18, 1975 to the late Mildred Weeks Garlington and Cecil Douglas Garlington in High Point, North Carolina. Michelle is proceeded in death by her mother, Mildred; maternal grandparents, Gussie and Cunnie Weeks; and paternal grandparents, Hazel and George Garlington, Sr.

Michelle was a 1993 graduate of High Point Central High School. In her Senior year, she was a part of the Girls Varsity Basketball State Championship team. She went on to attend Brevard College, where she continued to play basketball. Michelle was a valued employee of Optum 360, where she worked for 13 years as a Billing Customer Service Representative and built great relationships with her work family.

Despite the challenges of living with Multiple Sclerosis, Michelle persevered in her battle. She remained strong and led a fun-loving life. Michelle was an avid sports fan, including basketball and football, her favorites being LeBron James and The Washington (Redskins) Football team. She also enjoyed watching Forensic Files and anything on the ID Channel.

One of the joys of Michelle’s life was being Geegee to her two grandsons, Jayce and KaiKai. She was truly devoted to them and has left an indelible mark on their young lives.

Left to celebrate her legacy are Michelle’s daughters, Jasmine and Jayla Boyd; father, Cecil (Justine) Garlington; brother, Michael (Crystal) Garlington; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends.

A private funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. F.O. Bass, Jr., officiating. A public viewing for Ms. Garlington will be on Friday, September 4, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the chapel. The community is invited to attend the family visitation Saturday morning at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc. from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Anyone attending the family visitation is required to wear a mask. The Homegoing Service will be private and limited to family only. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family thanks you in advance for respecting their wishes during this time.
