Obituary For Katherine M. Perry

Katherine M. Perry, 95, of Reidsville, NC died Tuesday, September 1, 2020. There will be a public viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. A Private Service will be held Monday, September 7, 2020 at 12 noon. LIVE STREAM WILL BE AVAILABLE ON PERRY SPENCER FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE.

Katherine, affectionally known as “Aunt Kat” was born January 1, 1925 to the late Arvelia Yourse Perry and William Haywood Perry. On September 1, 2020 she closed her eyes to go home to heaven. She was the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from Washington High School in Reidsville, NC and Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tn.She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and her love for the church was radiated through her service in the following areas: Chairperson of the Finance committee, chairperson of the Audit Committee, Board of trustees, Member of the Pastor- Parish Committee, Committee of Nominations, Outreach Ministries, Church Council, Lay Leadership, certified Lay Speaker, District Mission Society Representative, Administrative Council and the Women’s Society of Christian Service.

Katherine was one of the founding members of the Central District of the Funeral Directors and Morticians Association of North Carolina served as the Secretary/ Treasurer for well over forty years. She also served as a Life Member in the Order of Eastern Star PHA for over fifty years and was a Past Matron of Betheshevier Chapter #389A.

As a resident of Reidsville, NC for the majority of her life she earned the title of the First African American Cashier at Daniel’s Super Market where she was employed before joining her brother, Lee Settle Perry Sr., in starting Perry and Spencer Funeral Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: William Haywood Perry Jr., George Perry, Lee Settle Perry Sr., and Francis Norman Perry, sister: Elizabeth Perry.

She is survived by a devoted nieces and caregivers: Arvelia Martin (Arthur), Sheila Mosley (Jeffery), nephews: Lee S. Perry Jr., Lawrence Stafford Perry, Dennis Millner, Billy Perry, Dewitt Perry, and Chris Perry, and a host of other relatives and friends

Mrs. Kat has been such a joyful delight to all of us that she encountered! She had a smile on her face that is unforgettable. She was the bright spot for all of us at Perry & Spencer. We even visited just to see her and get her words of joy and to just get her smile shared with us. She was our business with words of encouragement. Mrs. Kat will be truly missed by all of us! Mrs. Katherine was a jewel to the community! For years when you entered into the funeral home her sweet presence would always greet us at the front desk. She would help us from insurance, notary, etc. The Perry Family and Funeral Home Staff have our condolences during your time of bereavement. Mrs Katherine was precious to our family. She will surely be missed. We truly got to know her when the Lodge sent our Daughter to Girls State. Mrs. Perry was the one who contacted us and stayed in touch with us and always checking to see how our daughter was doing. We will miss her at the Funeral Home.
