Obituary For Katie Frierson

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Funeral service for Mrs. Katie Mae Nettles Frierson will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at New Ebenezer Baptist Church, 307 South Ravenel Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mrs. Katie Mae Nettles Frierson was born February 14, 1949. She was the sixth of seven children born to Mr. George Nettles, Sr. and Mrs. Elouise Addison Nettles. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 while under hospice care.

Katie attended the Public Schools of Florence County, where she graduated from Wilson High School in 1967. She also earned a certificate in Medical Terminology from Florence Darlington Technical Education Center in 1975.

Katie was employed with McLeod Hospital for 51 years, first as a Vital Statistician and then as Unit Secretary. On December 21, 1990, she married Willie Frierson, and to this union they had one son, William Todd Frierson.

Katie was a member of the New Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was passionate about praising and worshipping God. She participated in various programs and supported the ministry, including the Boy Scouts.

Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; four siblings, Margaret Leggette, Catherine Mitchell, Elouise Roper, and George Nettles, Jr.; her husband, Willie Frierson; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose Frierson, Nana Mae Frierson, Jeanette Frierson, Miriam Latson, Foster Cummings, Holland Frierson, Theodric Frierson, Cornell Frierson, Wardell Frierson, Donald Frierson, Gillespie Myers, and Woodrow Leggette.

Katie leaves to cherish her memories: one son, William Todd Frierson of the home; two brothers, Cleo (Rhonda) Nettles of Ridgewood, New York, and Bill Nettles of Columbia, South Carolina; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora Lee Nettles, Carnetha Frierson, both of Florence, South Carolina, Marietta Myers of Effingham, South Carolina, N. (Hardy) Mitchell of Florence, South Carolina, and Ronald Roper of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; friends; and colleagues.

Family visitation will be held 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday, September 7, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina.

Ms. Katie was a beautiful God fearing woman . You would always see her in the household of faith , at the NEBC standing on her feet giving God the highest praise . She loved to complement you whenever we would see each other at church or the grocery store. William is a fine man and very respectable. She raised him well.
