~OBITUARY~

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me..." II Timothy 4:7 - 8

Michael Gist was born August 13, 1959, to the late Willie V. Gist and the late Mary M. Gist in Allendale County, South Carolina. At an early age, Michael confessed Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He later became a baptized member of Transfiguration Baptist Church, North Augusta, South Carolina.

He was educated in the public schools of Allendale County. Upon graduation, he attended both Nebraska University and the University University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. Michael was employed with Savannah River Site for over ten years. During his tenure, he was promoted to Supervisor.

Michael was a man who was extremely intelligent. He was always a jokester. He never met a stranger. A man of great strength who truly loved his children and grandchildren, is who Michael was. Michael was an avid all around athlete.

He was joined in holy matrimony to Melanie D. Gist and this union was blessed with two children, Brittany and Michael.

On Sunday, September 6. 2020, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC, Michael transitioned from labor to reward.

His father; Willie V. Gist and mother; Mary M. Gist will greet him as he enters his new life.

Michael leaves to cherish fond memories: (1) Daughter; Brittany (Terrence) Gist, Hephzibah, GA; (1) Son; Michael (Jamie) Gist, Kansas City, MS; (3) Grandchildren; Jamarian, Jaida, and Terrance II, all of Hephzibah, GA; (1) Sister; Marcella Gist; (1) Niece; Simone Gist; (1) Nephew; Naquan Gist; (1) Great Grand Niece; Shani Conner; (1) Great Grand Nephew; Kyler Gist; Special friend, Darlene Doe; A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loving friends.

Michael was a classmate of mine beginning at Fairfax Elementary School. We went through school and graduated together from AF in 1978. I haven't seen Michael I don't believe since that day. I did not realize he lived so close to home. So sad he has gone so soon. He was a very nice guy and I'm sure his kindness touched many people along the way.
