Obituary For Essie Foster

Mrs. Essie Hill Foster age 102 formerly of Iron Station, North Carolina transitioned on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina on June 27, 1918 to the late LeRoy Hill and Emma Ross Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Pete Foster, a daughter, Emma Lumford and a son, William Foster, Jr. “My mother is an amazing woman who led by example,” her daughter Bernice Ross said. “She believed in working hard and taught her children to do the same. If there was a little more daylight and a little more cotton to pick, we did it because she said, ‘don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.’ She loved God and her family and taught them to love God and each other.” Affectionally known as “Mrs. Essie,” “Aunt Essie,” “Mama” and “Grandma,” she was a great cook who always planted a big vegetable garden, canned and preserved what she got from it, and raised pork and chickens. She could feed an army and still have leftovers. She loved to watch baseball and Jeopardy.

Sister Essie Foster is one of the most inspiring christian woman of virtue that I have ever met in my 44-years of pastoral ministry. She had quick wit and lovedGod, her family, church and community. I am proud to have served as her pastor for 7 1/2 years at Mt. Vernon. She was one of the greatest cooks because love went into all she did, because what she did she did it " as unto the Lord." Lincoln County had a jewel of a citizen in Mrs. Essie Hill Foster. Wade Wallace along with my wife express our condolences to the Foster family. May God hold you real close during your time of sorry.
