Calvin Demps

Mr. Calvin Demps was born on March 16, 1947 to the late Cornelius “Buddy” Demps II and Annie Mae McCoy Demps in Valdosta, GA. He married the love of his life, Saundra Demps, on December 6, 1968. He grew up in the Jones Settlement Community and was known as the Mayor of Jones’s. Calvin graduated from Westside High School in 1966 where he played football and basketball. He was the ultimate Lowndes Vikings, VSU Blazers, Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons fan. He retired from Georgia Power. Calvin accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Thomas Chapel Baptist Church. Calvin loved to joke around, and he never met a stranger. He also loved to cook and take care of the elderly.

Calvin Demps departed life on September 9, 2020 at South Georgia Medical Center.

Calvin Demps was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Eric Henderson; three sisters, Mavis Demps, Ruby Demps and Donnie Mae Jones; four brothers, Cornelius Demps Jr., Sylvester “CB” Demps, Willie Mack and Herbert Demps; three brothers-in-law Bruce Jackson, Lanice Jones and Isaac Hunter; three sisters-in-law Pinky Demps, Easter Demps and Brenda Alexander.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Saundra J. Demps; three daughters Tamela Thomas (Lorenzo), Valerie Henderson and Karen Steward (Rodrick); ten grandchildren Aerica Henderson, Jessica Worley (Frederick), Kenyada Henderson, Victoria Pharris (Nathan), Tiera Henderson (Dominique), Quinton Demps (Dionne), Calvin-Lloyd Thomas, Carlton Thomas (Courtney), Eric Henderson and Kaitlyn; 12 great-grands Leah, Kaden, Malik, Travis Jr., Olivia, Camille, Grace, Marcus, Jaya, Trinity, Emori and Ethan; one sister Mae Ester Garland; one brother Edward Adams; sisters-in-law Bernetha Demps, Anges Adams, Althoria Demps, Janice Jackson, Donna Jean Hunter, Shelia Orr (John), Joann Young (Eddie), Stephanie Williams (Jerry); brothers-in-law Mike Alexander (Kimberly), Willie Head, Larry Head and Bernard Jackson (Lakarsha); A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and Kingston. Close friends Cleo Williams, Eddie McCormick, Coach Bob, Cedrick Bell, Chester Wright and John Milton.

Graveside service for Calvin Demps will be held Saturday, September 19 at 10:00 A M at the Pallbearer Cemetery. If you would like to view the service on Saturday, please become friends with us on Facebook by Friday, September 18. Scott and Roberts Mortuary.
