MSG (Ret.)Tyler Arthur Walker, Sr.

On September 9, 2020, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Tyler Arthur Walker, Sr., at the age of Eighty-Five. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 31, 1935, in Stateline, MS, he was the son of the late Tyler and Willie Etta Walker and later cared for by his Uncle Prince, Sr. and Irma Weeks Powe.

After graduating from Baldwin County Training School in 1953, Tyler joined the United States Army in 1954 where he served thirty years with distinction as a soldier. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a Bronze Star Medal and many other decorations during his time in the military. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him and his attention to detail was legendary.

Aside from reading his Bible, Tyler loved taking road trips with his wife, gardening, eating crab legs, and listening to gospel music. One of his favorite gospel songs was, “Cooling Water”. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tyler is survived by: his wife, Ann; dedicated and caring children, Tyler A. Walker, Jr. of Jackson, Georgia, Ina Vernell Taylor of Augusta, Georgia, Zaddis (Nicole) Walker of Evans, Georgia, Belinda (Nathaniel) Campbell of Columbus, Georgia, Barbara McCottrell of Atlanta, Georgia, and Diane Stephens of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Inez Allen of Daphne, Alabama, and Jeanette Chapman of Stateline, Mississippi; three sisters-in-law; fourteen grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, September 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Reverend Dr. Clarence Moore, officiating.
