My condolences go out to you, the Beard family. I've enjoyed a few summers visiting with you all and hearing Mr. Beard, Steve, Nathanial and terrence tell me stories of what it was like growing up on the five mile lane. We even enjoyed a few horseback rides. Mr. Beard will be truly missed. They just don't make men like him any more. From the Barnes and Bowers family to you, we send our condolences and respect. Mr Alonzo Beard, sleep well sir! Respectfully, Antonio Lavellia Barnes, Son of Anna Bowers, Grandson of Denise Bowers.

It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we learn of our friends death. Alonzo served his community, his church and his family well and honorably. We will greatly miss his --- his humor, his stories about his family (especially your first visit to Ripley and Five Mile Lane Diane. He worshipped his girls and loved his large wonderful family. There's a deep hole in our hearts and in our community as we say farewell for now to our friend. Phillip and Jean Jackson

It is with fond remembrances of Alonzo's gregarious personality, infectious laughter and undeniable sense of humor that I leave this brief note. My deepest condolences are extended to Mrs. Beard, Latasha, Mary and other family members. In my conversations with Mr. Beard, he was exceedingly proud of his family and always spoke so lovingly of his accomplished daughters-Latasha & Mary. I admire the commitment he had as a civic leader and astute business man who had a servant-leader mentality. Alonzo was willing to give a voice to those who may have been marginalized or disenfranchised. May the ANGELS rejoice as a TRUE Solider is allowed to REST. Humbly submitted by Reginald Walker

We, the Carver High Class of 1962, will always remember the friendly, smiling and easy going boy that was Alonzo Beard. He carried those characteristics with him through life as he made contributions to his family and community. His life exemplified the motto of his college alma mater, TSU, "enter to learn go forth to serve". Dorothy Granberry

To the family, I know you loved him more than anyone could ever know but God loved him so much more. Last time I saw him we walked side by side & laughed, I took great joy as I told him that, every time i see you, i think about my mama and how she loved some Mr Alonzo, he smiled. What made him laugh is saying, Mr Alonzo, had you for hours and she is going to talk you down. He said she sure would but he said he loved & always enjoyed her also. So may the words give you some comfort knowing God has a wonderful soldier & we are almost home. You'll see him again. On behalf of the Taylor family, Mary Rose, Bobbie, Bettye, James, Ralph, Brian Sr, & Clarrice you have always been family & we love you.
