Obituary For Clarence Edward "Skeeter" Hairston, Jr.

Clarence Edward “Skeeter” Hairston Jr., 80, of Greensboro, NC died Friday, September 11, 2020. Public viewing will be Tuesday, September 15,2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC. The family will have a private funeral service.

Clarence was affectionately known as Skeeter, 80, of Greensboro, North Carolina, and formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, returned to his heavenly home on September 11, 2020. Clarence was born to Clarence Edward Hairston, Sr., and Katherine H. Hairston on July 26, 1940, in Elbert, West Virginia. He was one of three children. Skeeter accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Not long after he completed his formal education, he entered the United States Navy in 1960. After his six years of military service, he returned to Wilmington, DE to start a career as a Brick Mason until he retired after over 50 years in a career he truly loved. Skeeter loved Golf, Football, and Fishing until his health left him unable to participate in his favorite hobbies. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins football team. He also enjoyed food-related shows such as Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and other shows on the Food Network. He loved spending time with his family while telling jokes and filling the room with his recognizable laugh.

He will be truly missed and is survived by his children, Keith Hairston of Clinton, Maryland, Stanley Hairston (Veronica) of West Chester, Ohio, Rhonda Hairston of Greensboro, North Carolina, Karl Hairston, and Gerald Hairston both of Wilmington, Delaware, Donald Hairston of Charlotte, North Carolina, a niece who was like a daughter Wendy Gray of Hyattsville, Maryland, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister Carol Jean Latham, a sister-inlaw Edith Hairston, his foster sister, Carol Broadnax and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Edward Hairston, Sr., his mother, Katherine H. Hairston, his brother, Samuel Wesley Hairston, III, his daughter Holly Tinsley and his foster brothers Jesse Broadnax, Otha McDaniel.
