Obituary For John Broxton III

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, John Broxton III passed away at the age of 80.

John was born September 17, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, New York to John Broxton Jr. and Emma Harris Broxton. John was the second child of three. He graduated from Gifford High School and went on to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

As a child, John was very quiet and curious. He enjoyed tinkering with "things." In addition to engineering, John was also socially conscious. While attending Florida A & M University, John was actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement. He participated in sit-ins and was jailed for his efforts.

John loved music and performed in New York, California, and Europe under the stage name Parrish. His European tours fed his love for traveling and he journeyed all over the world. John finally settled in California where he became a private investigator until he retired.

John is preceded in death by his father, John Broxton Jr.; mother, Emma Harris Broxton. He is survived by his son, Sam Scott(Louella); sister, Barbara Coleman(Robert); brother, Donald Broxton(Joyce); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service celebrating his life and legacy will commence on Friday, September 18, 2020 at West Wabasso Cemetery in Wabasso, FL beginning at 2:00pm.

I just found out that John passed. I was friends with John a long time. We use to do private investigations together and we would hang out. I was telling my wife recently that I hadn't heard from John in quite a while. I was going to go out to Florida to visit with my daughter who lives out there. That is when I found out that John had passed. If you would like to get ahold of me my email address is frankydv@yahoo.com. I have plenty of stories of me and John. He will be missed. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

I remember when I was a little girl the first time I heard him sing, he had such a beautiful voice. You will be missed Uncle John.
