Charles Exel Simpson, 73, was born February 18, 1947 to the late James Simpson, Sr. and Martha Nichols Simpson in Gastonia, North Carolina. He transitioned peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. Charles was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Simpson and James Simpson, Jr. At an early age, Charles joined Epworth United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend James T. Jones. He graduated from Highland High School, Gastonia, North Carolina “Class of 1966”. Upon graduation from high school Charles enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully in Germany. He was formerly employed with Pharr Yarn, Inc of McAdenville, North Carolina. Charles never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a warm smile. He was a kind and gentle person. Charles was an avid reader and loved shopping at Walmart.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two brothers, Issac Simpson (Betty) of Shelby, N.C. and Reverend Thomas “Tommy” E. Simpson (Cynthia) of Kings Mountain, N.C.; one sister, Kay Hudson of Gastonia, N.C.; very special cousin, Velora W. Cook of Gastonia, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
