He was born in Harrisburg, son of the late Samuel and Vivian (Gumby) Lester, a graduate of the former John Harris High School, Penn State University and the PA State Police Academy.
Richard was retired with an honorable discharge from the PA State Police Troop H and a member of American Legion Ephraim Slaughter Post 733. He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Marjorie J. Lester; his son, Richard Lester, Jr.; his brothers, Solomon Murray, Steven Murray, Dr. John Wesley Gumby, Sr., Ronald E. Gumby, Sr. and Samuel Lester, Jr.; his sisters, Patricia Copeland and Angela Murray; his granddaughter, Deanna Lester and a host of other relatives and friends. Richard's life will be celebrated on Monday, September 21 at 12 Noon in the Sanctuary of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church at 212 N. Progress Ave. with viewing 10:00 a.m.until Noon and burial in Paxtang Cemetery. Covid 19 guidelines will be observed with masks and six foot social distancing for all attendees.
