Obituary For Augustus Lewis Elston

Funeral services Mr. Augustus Lewis Elston, 72, will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Destiny's Mission Inc. Prophet Darrell M. Keith will deliver the eulogy. Mr. Elston will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be limited to the immediate family. Interment will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Alabama National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020.

Mr. Augustus Lewis Elston began his earthly life on Saturday, January 17, 1948, to the late Joe Swain and the late Dazarene Elston Hall in Talladega, Alabama.

Mr. Elston was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Talladega County Training School. On August 12, 1968, Augustus enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until August 21, 1970. After returning to Alabama, Augustus dedicated many years of service to Kimberly-Clark Corporation, U. S. Alliance and retired from Bowater in 2005. On November 24, 1971, Augustus and the former Cardella Swain were united in holy matrimony and remained in covenant until her passing on July 7, 2003.

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, Mr. Elston began his eternal life. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Cardella S. Elston; his parents, Joe Swain and Dazarene Hall; two brothers, Edward Charles Hall and Willie Ervin Hall; and two sisters, Aletha Faye Tuck and Linda Faye Swain.

Loving memories will be forever in the hearts of his three children, Quintin Elston of Talladega, Alabama, Rhonda Elston (Jimmy Hawkins) of Alexander City, Alabama and Tiffanie Elston of Alpine, Alabama; one granddaughter, DaQuendra Elston; six sisters, Wilma (Melvin) Cochran, Katrina (Bruce) Cunningham and Stephanie Jemison of Talladega, Alabama, Bobbie R. Swain and Marva L. Sterling of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Rita (Moses) Jones of Akron, Alabama; three brothers, Master Sgt. James (Cora) Elston of Panama City, Alabama, Clinton (Bridget) Hall, Jr. and Marcus (Katrina) Hall of Talladega, Alabama; a Goddaughter, Paige Bowman-Ilodibe; a God-Granddaughter, Diara Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gus and I share the same birth month and day, Jan. 17. We were TCTS 1966 classmates and our Mothers were friends back in the day. He had a big personality and will be missed by many.
