On Monday, September 21, 2020, Mr. Billy Gene Shannon, better known by loved ones as “Bill”, passed away after a brief illness to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Even though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we realize that Bill lived a full and blessed life. He loved his family, cherished his grandkids, and had a zest for life. He loved a good fellowship with family and friends.

Billy Gene Shannon was born in Sylvester, Georgia on July 12, 1953. He was the son of the late Mr. Lemon A. Moses (Elizabeth) and the late Mrs. Mary L. Shannon Caine. Billy was reared by his mom and stepfather, the late Mr. Morris Roberts, whom he loved dearly. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Mr. Arthur Shannon, Sr. and Mrs. Louise Shannon, and his brother, Bobby.

Billy was educated in the Worth County school system, and graduated from Worth County High School. He went on to receive an Associate Degree in Agriculture from Fort Valley State University. In his early years, he worked for Orkin Exterminators. After leaving Orkin, Billy worked at Miller Brewing Company in Albany, Georgia. He retired as a Master Brewer after 33 years at Miller Brewing Company. He enjoyed fishing, family, hanging out with his buddies, and helping everybody.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two children, Eric Taylor (Tonya) of Tifton, Georgia and Angelle Whittington (Norman) of Warner Robins, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Eric, Jerrick, Ja’aurrie, Xavier, Noah, Joy, Ruth, and Mary; three great grandchildren Jayla, Janaeya & Jennicka; three sisters, Jacqueline M. Gervin (Truman), Linda M. Vance, Gayle Barney; an aunt, Sadie Shannon Dixon; an uncle, Arthur Shannon, Jr.; a devoted companion, Barbara Johnson (her daughters Gineva and Monica); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him in their hearts forever.

Billy, My neighbor family, would always make me laugh (not intentionally). Over the years I greeted him with several Nick Names; Billy-Billy, Mr.Your-Way, Mr. Dude, Mr. Retirement (joyful). And, "The Cat Whisperer" Yes! his cat's would take evening walks with him. I was literally blown away by this, Never Ever have seen this before. His sister recently shared with me that the cat's didn't belong to him, he only fed them (Wow!). The majority of our conversations took place at our mailboxes or passing in the stores. Billy always had encouraging words, he was kind, and protective of me (fatherly). I'm so grateful he knew how much I appreciated him, I would mail Thank You and Holiday Cards even though he lived across from me. Rest In Peace Billy-Billy Vanessa Hill Jinks

To Linda(my sweet sister), Jackie and the rest of the family. Praying for your strength, during this challenging time. Even though we know Billy is resting in the arms of his Savior, the pain and void left behind, is hard to bare. May the Comfort and Love of Christ, strengthen you, for the days ahead. God is Faithful to Perform His Word, and He promised never to leave or forsake you. One day at a time, Sweet Jesus, that's all we asking from you. Blessings
