Obituary For Emma Bell Miller

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 29, 2020Cedar Hill Cemetery, 326 Lovers Lane, Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Emma Bell Miller was born September 23, 1934 in Philadelphia, Miss., and passed away September 21, 2020 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Ms. She became a member of the Valley Park, Mississippi community at an early age where later in life she met and married Leonard (Bubba) Miller. To that union was born eight (8) children. Emma was dedicated and faithful in serving the elderly in the community of Valley Park and surrounding areas. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother to her family and in educating the youth in and around Sharkey and Issaquena counties as a teacher and acting Director of Friends of Children of Mayersville, Mississippi.

She was a long time faithful and believer in Christ. She confessed her belief at an early age and became a member of Mount Eden Missionary Baptist Church of Valley Park, Ms., where she served as a choir member, church secretary/treasurer until her health began to fail. Her impact in education, community service work, faithfulness and love for all children will always be remembered. She only had eight children but was known as mother to all. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother Avis Atkins, father William Sledge, father/mother in-law George and Ruby Miller; husband Leonard Miller, three sisters Mary Bell Holmes, Hazel Cooper and Claude Brown, four brothers Willie Clifton Sledge, Dove, Joe and William Houston, one daughter Virginia Miller, two sons Leonard Wayne and Keith Miller and four great-grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish and mourn her death, three daughters; Mary (Jerome) Reed, Jackson, Mississippi, Shirley Hogan Los Vegas , Nevada, Judy (Samuel) Awala Riverdale Georgia, two sons Calvin (Lorenza) Miller, Vicksburg, Ms., Billy Miller, Los Vegas, Nevada, one sister-in-law Bernice Miller, Los Angeles, Ca., fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing will be 8:00 -5:00 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2020, Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home, 3580 Robinson Road, Jackson, Ms. Grave side services @ 11:00 a.m. September 29, 2020 Cedar Hill City Cemetery, Vicksburg, Ms. Please wear your face masks and no repast due to Covid 19.
