Charles Edward Lindsay

As a young child, Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and began working in the church as a Junior Usher. Early in his adulthood he became the first Deacon, Dr. Charles Hart ordained at Friday Memorial Baptist Church in Dallas, North Carolina. He later joined First Baptist Church in Dallas, North Carolina where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He wore many hats while doing the Lord’s work which included being a leader of the Usher Board, teaching Sunday School, a member of the Finance Committee, monitoring the audio and technical parts of the worship services, and was a member of both the Men’s Choir and the Hymn Choir.
Mr. Lindsay also dedicated his life to serving as a Mason. He belonged to the Golden Rule Lodge # 82 of Gastonia, North Carolina where he served for 56 years. Additionally, he was a member of the George Washington Carver Consistory #172 (he was a 32nd Degree) of Gastonia, North Carolina. Brother Charles Lindsay is currently a PAST master and he has held the Junior/Senior Deacon, Junior/Senior Warren, and Worship Master roles during his tenure as a dedicated lodge member. He began his education in the Clover City School System and later transferred to the Dallas Negro Elementary School of Dallas North Carolina. He later attended Highland High School in Gastonia, North Carolina where he graduated with the “Class of 1954”. After high school he joined the United States Army where he briefly served as a Cook. During this time, he married the love of his life Alberta Miller Lindsay and they were married for fifty-eight years. From this union they had three children, Pamela, Sylvia, and Chad.
Following his time in the military, he started his career at F.M.C. Lithium in Bessemer City, North Carolina where he was later promoted to Supervisor. He provided thirty years of excellent service before retiring. While working at Lithium he attended Cleveland Community College in Shelby, North Carolina where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Communications. He proudly graduated with honors and was inducted into the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society.
He used his technical knowledge to follow his passion and start his own videography business where he specialized in capturing family events, weddings, church programs, funerals, among other social gatherings. He especially loved to film all the school events of his beloved grandchildren. Anybody who knew Mr. Lindsay knew they would see him with his camera in hand.
Mr. Lindsay was passionate about serving the community, and was dedicated to doing missionary work where he prayed with and visited the sick and homebound. He also loved to ride his beautiful red and silver chromed Harley Davidson motorcycle with his late brother-in-law, Willie Adams, Jr.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his three children, Mrs. Pamela L. Jones (Roy) of Charlotte, NC, Ms. Sylvia E. Lindsay of Dallas, NC, and Mr. Chad E. Lindsay, Retired Military/Civil Service, of Augusta, GA; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Louise Oates of Kings Mountain, NC, Mrs. Wilma Wilson, Mrs. Ann Adams and Ms. Bettye Easley all of Dallas, NC; one brother-in-law, Mr. Robert L. Miller, Jr., Retired Military/Civil Service, of Killeen, TX; five grandchildren, Ms. Raven Ashlee Jones of Kannapolis, NC, Ms. Fallon A. Jones of Morrisville, NC, Mr. Roddrick E. Jones of Charlotte, NC, Ms. Camille D. Branch of Dallas, NC, and Ms. Theresa Alberta Lindsay of Ocala, FL; honorary grandchild, Master Xavier Hillman of Charlotte, NC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
