Obituary For Lizzie Mae "Cookie" King - Lang

Lizzie “Cookie” Mae King-Lang

March 21, 1951-Septemeber 22, 2020

Lizzie was a native Louisvillian, and a 1969 graduate of Male High School. She was a devoted fan of the basketball and football teams of University of Louisville.

Cookie will always be remembered for her hilarious humor, sharp tongue, quick wit, and do it herself attitude. She loved to play the lottery, hoping to be a big winner. Where ever she went, it never failed that she would converse with strangers and sometimes made a friend. She never met a stranger. She had many stories that she told, to young and old, of past experiences, some lighthearted and some that were for adults only. She loved to travel to Alabama to see family. As a young adult, she spent a year in Germany with her former husband and children.

Did we talk about cooking? She loved to cook her famous oyster stuffing, greens and smacking good potato salad, and okra with several ways to cook, that she tried to offer her brother. Cookie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

While raising her children, she worked as a nurse’s aide in many medical facilities. Her strong faith in God and church, brought her a mighty long way. Cookie will always be remembered for her wit, stirring the pot, and the love of family and friends.

Lizzie is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Dovella King; son, Derrick Lang; brothers, Columbus, Alan, Sherman; and sister, Suzie King. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Carrie), Anthony, Leonard “Leon”, and stepchildren, Darryl, Delisha, Devin and Demya Bell; brothers, Theodore (Saundra), Ronald “Duke”, Gregory Keith, Jessie, Herman King; and sisters, Nellie Mae, Deborah King and Emma King-Daily (Anthony);. fourteen grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces; and her cherished and devoted friend Lynda Lang-Linton.

She will be missed, but never forgotten.
