Obituary For Francis Roberts

Francis Warren Roberts Sr, was born on February 3, 1948. He was the sixth child born to Elizabeth Anderson Roberts and Willie Roberts in Elkton, Florida. The family lived on his grandmother homestead in small farming town west of St. Augustine, Florida. It was there that he spent his early childhood with the first seven of his twelve brothers and sister.

He spent his formative years in Fort Pierce and received his education in St. Lucie County Schools. Francis was drafted into the U.S. Army when he was 18 years old and served from 1966 to 1969 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.

While growing up in Fort Pierce with his three older brothers he learned to love two things, art and cars. Through his love for cars he became an excellent auto mechanic, a trade that lead him to his life long occupation as a truck driver. He learned paint from his brother Florida Highwayman Liivingston "Castro" Roberts. Francis and his brother Ernest became. salesmen of Livingston's paintings traveling the highways of south Fllorida selling his art for a number of years. He continued to paint throughout his life.

After he was discharge from military service he married twice. He met and married Gertrude Matthews in1974 to this union were born four children. Charles, Francis, Jr., Lathesa and Erick. Then in 1979 he met and married Nichole Gelin and to this union was born two sons. Adam and Alex. Although these two marriages dissolved in divorce he maintained a close loving bond with his children.

In 1984 he returned to Fort Pierce and met Gladys Fox who became his life long companion. Together they raised and co-parented Gladys' two children Yolanda and Jerome.

He leaves to cherish the memory his sons,Francis(Samantha) Roberts and Erick Roberts of Vero Beach, Florida, Alex Roberts and Adam Roberts of Newark, N.J.; daughters: Lathesa Stephens of Orlando, FL and Yolanda (Roderick) Foxx Palmer of Tallahassee, FL; brothers: James Roberts and D' Angelo Rosa of Jacksonville, FL, William Robinson of Savahah, GA; sisters, Loretta Moreno and Gertrude (Charles) Walker of Fort Pierce, FL, Carolyn (Joe) Wheeler of Florohome, FL and Angela (Leo) Ortiz of Fairfield, OH; grandchildren, Aliya Muhammad, Malcolm Muhammad, Tatyana Roberts, Jada Owens, Alicia Fehlberg, Victoria Roberts, Britney Livingston, Elijah, Gabrielle, Noah, Azuria, Serenity Roberts, Courtney Clark and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, brothers: Roosevelt Willie Roberts, Livingstone Roberts, Eddie Ernest Roberts and George Robinson, Sons Charles Roberts and Jerome Andrews.

Public visitation for Francis Roberts will take place on Friday, October 2, 2020 by way of our drive-thru in the rear of Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm. A graveside service to celebrate his life will convene on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:00am at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID 19 have been relaxed, we here at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
