His early education began at Trinity Elementary School, then at Alfred J. Griffin Junior High School and then on to Trinity High School. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.
Joseph moved to Thomasville, where he lived for 35 years. He was gainfully employed at Thomasville Furniture Company and Ralph Frame from which he retired.
Joseph was a compassionate, unselfish and dedicated man. He was a "Happy-go-lucky" individual and an avid football fan. He was devoted to his family. He enjoyed life and brought joy that impacted the lives of so many people. Battling with health issues, Joseph fought a good fight and he never complained.
Joseph leaves to celebrate his victory over death, two brothers, Marvin (Ceola) Cotton of Pahrump, Nevada and Earl Cotton of Trinity, NC; two sisters, Barbara C. Alexander of Charlotte, NC and Lucy C. Rush of Trinity, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Mr. Cotton may be viewed on Monday, October 5, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel.
