Obituary For John W. Weatherby

John Wesley Weatherby, a United States Army Veteran, departed life Monday, September 28, 2020, in Kosciusko, Mississippi.

John was born December 31, 1955, to Tommy Lee and Ella Mae Weatherby. He was educated in Attala County Public Schools, where he graduated in McAdams High School in 1977. After four years of honorable service and sacrifice to his country, John dedicated 15 years to The United States Army Reserves. On January 21, 1981, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo Greer. He was the father of three children and three grandchildren. John earned tenure with Ivey Mechanical Company, a national plumbing and electrical company where he was nearing retirement in 2021.

John was devoted and dedicated member of Greater New Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, where he held various positions. He served faithfully most recently as chairman of the Deacon Board, Vice President of the Usher Board, and Sunday School Superintendent. In his leisure time, John enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John valued family time; from annual family vacations to qualify time with his grandchildren, he always made time for family. John is preceded n death by his sons Eddie and Dominque, his parents Tommy Lee and Ella Mae; three brothers McArthur, Jessie and Tommy Lee Sr. Weatherby, seven brothers-in-law; David and Peter Lee, Ozell Rimmer, Dave, Mose and Bishop George Greer and Lee Harmon, Sr. Three sisters-in-law; Mary Ann Weatherby Annie Viola, Annie Pearl Triplett.

John loving memories are cherished by his wife of 39 years Betty Jo Weatherby, daughter Cassandra (Chris) Weatherby King; three grandchildren: La George, MaKayla Weatherby, and Quandarius Holmon. Six sisters: Lena and Virginia Lee, Mary Rimmer, Betty Weatherby, Josephine Clark, and Jacqueline (Tony) Knight. Three brothers Richard (Katherine) Weatherby, Frank Weatherby and David (Darryl) Weatherby. Three sister-in-laws Miranda Weatherby, Minnie Harmon & Annie (Randy) Nelson. A host of devoted nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. John will truly be missed by all who encountered him.
