Obituary For Learnon Leon Sr.

Learnon Leon, Sr., 65, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida on October 14, 1954 to the late Deacon Daniel Leon, Jr. and Mother Idella Leon. Learnon is known for his work in the insurance industry for over 30 yrs. At time of his death, he was employed by Kemper Insurance Agency and was a Lieutenant over the Posse Unit at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. In previous years, he also served as a Deputy Sheriff with the same agency and was a Sergeant at the Women’s Prison in Gadsden County.

He was a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He also served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. In addition, he served as a Military Policeman and part of the Military boxing team. He also was the CEO of Save A Life Chess Club.

Learnon is survived by his children: Learnon, Jr., Makeda Leon, Mina Ford-Russell (Tyrone), Daria Leon, Joi Leon, and Arielle Stevens; sisters, Antoinette Leon, Kimberly Leon walker; brothers, Ray Leon (Barbara) and Antonio Leon (Melissa); brother-in-law, Walter Davis and a special friend, Donna Anderson, who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sabrina Leon Davis.

Graveside service will be 11 AM Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Clifford Hill Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 11 AM to 6 PM Friday, October 16, 2020 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home.

Learnon and I met at Leon High, playing baseball. I knew him for almost 59 years. He was a good man who cared very much for his family, friends, fraternity, city, community and FAMU. May he rest in peace. Dennis Parham
