Obituary For Sarah Ann Sims

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

Private Funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Ann Sims will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment will follow in Saint Beulah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Due to COVID 19, restrictions and limitations of gatherings we please ask that, our extended family and friends greet us 12:15 PM at Saint Beulah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Corner of Wallace Gregg Road and Large Farm Road, Florence, South Carolina, 29506 for the Interment service.

Mrs. Sarah Ann Sims was born on July 16, 1930, to the union of Cinnie and Millie Douglas in Florence, South Carolina. She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her family while still a young lady.

Sarah accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint Beulah Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina. Sarah received her formal education in Florence County School District.

Sarah was employed and worked many different occupations based on her gifts and talents. She wed Abraham Dorsey and later married a longtime companion; J. C. Sims, who preceded her in death. To these unions, she had many wonderful children in whom she loved very much.

Sarah was a woman of virtue. She was spiritual and knew the Lord, intelligent, elegant and stylist in appearance. She carried herself with poise in a sophisticated and fashionable way. Sarah loved to go out and shop for just about anything. She displayed genuine love with anyone who crossed her path.

Sarah Sims departed this life on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at the age of 90.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Sims; her parents, Cinnie Douglas and Millie Douglas; one daughter, Diane Moyer; three brothers, Cinnie Douglas, Jr., George Douglas, and Willie Douglas; two sisters, Lester Conner and Elmer Williams; two grandchildren, Arron and Eric Murphy-Davis; one great granddaughter, Valerie Murray and two sisters-in-law.

Sarah leaves to cherish her many children who she loved so much from the oldest to the youngest child: Annie Murphy (Deceased husband, Edward) of Florence, South Carolina, Esther Beaufort (Deceased husband, Marion) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tommy Dorsey (Ada) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Pearlena Moses (Deceased husband, Robert) of Florence, South Carolina, Anthony Dorsey (Wilma) of Thomasville, North Carolina, Jacqueline Floyd (Gary) of Florence, South Carolina, Michael A. Dorsey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Patricia Shaw (Melvin) of Brunswick Georgia, Willie Dorsey of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Dawana Dorsey-Bolden (Mack) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one brother, Thomas Douglas (Annie Mae) of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Douglas of Chicago, Illinois and Beverly Douglas of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of lovely grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; friends; and loved ones.

Public viewing will be held 6:00 PM -7:00 PM Friday at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina.
