Sophronia Ann Leavell Reese departed to be with her heavenly father on October 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, TaKisha Faulkner. Sophronia was the last living child of seven siblings—Ramona Richards, Scottie Wilkerson, Louise Ford, Georgie Leavell, Clinton Leavell and Bill Leavell—all born to Tom and Ethel Leavell of Garrard County.

Sophronia Reese was born on April 26, 1926 in Flatwoods, Kentucky. She attended Stoney Point Colored School and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio as a young woman. After returning to Danville, Kentucky in 1978, she worked as a nurse and caretaker for many years. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Flatwoods Baptist Church in Garrard County under the Reverend William H. Mills. She later joined the Clifton Baptist Church under the Reverend James A. Landrum and later joined with the Salvation Army Church in Danville, Kentucky. She loved her Salvation Army Church family and served there faithfully until her health began to deteriorate. “Mama Fronia”, as she was known loved her family and looked forward to spending time with them, especially during the holidays. Watching The Young and the Restless and the Cincinnati Reds on TV were two of her favorite pastimes.

Sophronia leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children Martha Ann Leavell Wilkinson and Michael (Brenda) Thomas Hughes; grandchildren Bonnie (John) Wilkinson Barnes, Bobby Wilkinson, Jr., Bridget Wilkinson Stanfield, Craig McKitric, Nikki (Dwayne) Southerland, Tamara Hughes, Gerald Hughes and Sheree Green; 13 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a host of friends and a very special friend and caregiver, Terrie Hammonds.

Guest Book

Martha and Michael you have my deepest sympathy! I loved your mom and was so happy to see her when we came to town. Our family especially Minnie, Francis, Tina and myself will miss our visits with her. We couldn't visit her as often as we'd like too but know she was always in our thoughts and prayers. I pray that God will give you comfort during your time of grieving. If i can be of any service to you all please let me know. Sincerely The Waukegan, Illinois Leavell Family
